Srinagar, Apr 14 (KNO): The Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department on Monday observed National Fire Service Day at its headquarters in Batamaloo here and in other parts of the valley, paying tributes to firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.
As per the details obtained by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event began with a two-minute silence to honour the martyrs, followed by wreath-laying at the Martyrs’ Column. Officers and personnel from across the department participated in the solemn occasion.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Command Officer Fire & Emergency Services Srinagar, Er Aqib Hussain Mir said, "The day reminds us of the courage and sacrifice of our firefighters who never hesitated to put their lives on the line. As per our motto ‘We Serve to Save’, we must always be ready to face any emergency."
He urged the personnel to stay committed to their duty, saying we shall never show our back to fire. “Saving lives and property is our top priority, even if it means putting ourselves at risk,” he added.
Er Hussain praised ADGP Fire Services Alok Kumar for his leadership and continued support in strengthening the department. “Under the guidance of ADGP Alok Kumar Sir, the department has witnessed several positive changes, including better coordination and operational efficiency,” he said.
He further shared the department’s efforts towards modernisation. “The Fire and Emergency Services Department has already started adapting new gear and technology to enhance our ability to respond to emergencies quickly and safely,” he said, adding such observances are important not only to remember the fallen heroes but also to spread awareness about fire safety among the public.
Notably, the National Fire Service Week is being observed from April 14 to 20 across the Union Territory, with various awareness activities planned at district and station levels. This year’s theme is “Unite to Ignite, a Fire Safe India.”—(KNO)
